Chitral Bazaar is a public directory. You can browse it without an account, without signing in, and without giving us your name. This page explains what little data is involved and where it lives.
To work without an account, the app stores a few things in your browser's local storage. This never leaves your device, and you can wipe it any time from Settings → Data on this device or by clearing your browser's site data:
So we can tell what's working, the app records simple events on our own server: a page was viewed, a search was run (and how many results it returned), a shop card was tapped, a “directions” or “call” button was pressed. Each event is tagged with a random id for your browsing session and a random id for your browser, plus a rough device type (phone, tablet, desktop).
These ids are not linked to your name, phone number, email or exact location, and we don't try to work out who you are from them. Automated traffic (bots and crawlers) is filtered out. We use this only in aggregate — for example, “mobile repair was the most common search this month.” These usage events are deleted after about 13 months.
Chitral Bazaar is free to use and is supported by ads served by Google AdSense. Ads appear in marked spaces on some pages, and are never shown in the team's admin panel.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ad Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Our own anonymous usage data (described above) is never shared with Google or any advertiser.
The map only asks for your location when you tap the locate button, and your browser will prompt you first. It's used once, on your device, to centre the map. It is not sent to our server and not stored.
The Suggest a business form can also use your location, but only if you tap Use my current location there. That pins the shop you're suggesting, and it's saved with your suggestion as the shop's position, not as yours.
Listings — shop names, owners, hours, photos, landmarks — are added and checked by the Chitral Bazaar team, sometimes from public sources and sometimes from the businesses themselves. If you run a shop and want a detail changed or removed, use the Report link on its page or the suggestion form.
If you send us a suggestion or a correction, any name or phone number you type into it is removed about six months after we review it. The shop details themselves, if they are added to the directory, stay listed. That includes a storefront photo or map pin you sent, which may be used on the shop's page.
Phone, WhatsApp and directions links hand off to your own dialer, WhatsApp or maps app. Chitral Bazaar doesn't place calls, send messages, or share your number with anyone.
We don't sell data and we don't share our usage data with advertisers. Ads on the app are delivered by Google directly, as described under Advertising. Aggregate, non-identifying figures may be shared with a business about its own listing (for example, how many people viewed it).
The app is a general directory and isn't aimed at children. It doesn't knowingly collect information from them — there's no personal information to collect.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
